Inter Miami CF News Release
MIAMI - Inter Miami CF announced today it has signed defender Franco Negri, who most recently featured for Argentine top-flight team Club Deportivo Godoy Cruz, to a contract running through the 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, with a Club option for the 2025 campaign. The 27-year-old left back, who can also be deployed in midfield, will bolster the First Team roster and provide experience ahead of the 2023 campaign.
Negri joins the Club pending the receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa.
"We are thrilled to strengthen our squad with an experienced and versatile player like Negri and are excited to see him represent Inter Miami as we work towards a successful season in 2023," said Inter Miami CF Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director Chris Henderson.
"I feel very excited and motivated by this beautiful opportunity that fútbol and Inter Miami have afforded me, to be able to join the Club. It's a very organized club and excellent in all aspects, one which any player would like to play for. My goal is to give everything for the team in every training session and every match, trying to achieve as many of the team's goals as possible and represent the Club the best way possible on and off the pitch," said Negri.
In all, the San Martín, Argentina born Negri has racked up 132 appearances across all competitions, including 45 in Argentina's first division and four in the prestigious CONMEBOL Copa Sudamericana, registering seven goals and four assists. Negri has spent the entirety of his career playing in his native Argentina to date; representing Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro (2012-2018), Quilmes Atlético Club (2016-2017 on loan), Club Sportivo Independiente Rivadavia (2017-2018 on loan and 2018-2020), Club Atlético Belgrano (2020-2021), Club Atlético Newell's Old Boys (2021) and Club Deportivo Godoy Cruz (2022).
Negri most recently played for Argentine top flight club Godoy Cruz. In his sole year with the team in 2022, he made 32 appearances across all competitions, contributing with two assists.
The versatile defender began his career developing as a player in San Lorenzo's youth ranks from 2012 to 2016. Negri was then loaned out to Quilmes in the summer of 2016, where he would go on to make his professional debut in October of that same year in a Argentine first division matchup. He recorded 11 appearances for Quilmes in his first year as a professional and was subsequently sent on loan to Independiente Rivadavia in 2017. The transfer was later made permanent in 2018, with Negri totaling 57 appearances and five goals across all competitions for the side before moving to Club Atlético Belgrano in 2020. He made four appearances in the shortened 2020 campaign and was then signed by first division side Newell's Old Boys at the start of 2021.
Negri remained at the Rosario, Santa Fe based club for a year, registering 28 appearances, four of them in the CONMEBOL Copa Sudamericana, and tallied two goals and two assists.
