Ottawa Fury FC News Release
OTTAWA, ON - Ottawa Fury FC scored an impressive 3-0 victory Wednesday evening in Arizona over fellow NASL club Indy Eleven thanks to a second have offensive surge with goals coming from Paulo Junior, new signing Pablo Dyego and Gerardo Bruna who converted from the penalty spot for the second straight match. Marcel DeBellis and Romuald Peiser shared the clean sheet on a evening where's Ottawa defensive game again looked solid.
"Both halves we defended really well," said Daglish after the match. "It looked like a pre-season game in the first half with only two chances - one for each team. But in the second half, a lot of the attacking things that we've been working on came off. We looked really dangerous in the last third and to look that dangerous this early in the pre-season fills me with great hope."
Two newcomers made their Fury FC debut on Wednesday as Canadian men's national team defender Marcel de Jong and Brazilian-striker Pablo Dyego both featured in the second half.
Dyego didn't waste time to impress his new club as he was the architect of Ottawa's first goal with a nice ball from the endline to Paulo Junior who buried the opener in the 63rd minute. Dyego wasn't done there. Three minutes later the speedy-Brazilian tracked down a through ball and caught Indy's keeper, Keith Cardona, off his line chipping it beyond the keeper for a 2-0 Fury FC lead. Gerardo Bruna rounded out the scoring, with his second goal in two games from the penalty spot sending Fury FC to a resounding 3-0 victory.
Wednesday's tilt also saw Colin Falvey, Sinisa Ubiparipovic and Nicki Paterson face their former club for the first time. The trio were all part of Indy's Starting XI in the opening half.
Prior to Wednesday's match, Fury FC announced two new additions to the squad - Marcel de Jong and Pablo Dyego. The match against Indy was a first opportunity for Dalglish and his coaching staff to have a better idea of what they could bring to the team. The new faces made a good first impression.
"You get absolute quality with those two players," said Dalglish. "Pablo Dyego played against Napoli in the Europa league six months ago, so obviously a lot of quality there and we saw it today with his goal and his assist. And then Marcel de Jong, 29, played in the Bundesliga, played more than 40 times for Canada so his addition to the team is also huge."
Fury FC continue their third week of training camp in Arizona with their next pre-season test coming against Real Salt Lake Academy on Sunday afternoon.
