MLS ON TV: Believe it or not, coverage of Major League Soccer isn't limited to Saturday afternoon games on ESPN2. In fact, Fox Sports World has a Saturday night Game Of The Week each week on FSW, with the next telecast coming on Aug. 16, when the Chicago Fire plays host to D.C. United in a critical Eastern Conference contest starting at 8:30 p.m. Eastern time. Earlier in the day, ESPN2 will carry the San Jose-New England game live from Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. starting at 4 p.m. Eastern time. Even more games are available through the MLS Shootout package on pay-per view. For more information on subscribing, log on to www.indemand.com. Of course, blackout restrictions will apply.
MORE SOCCER: Fox Sports World has more soccer coverage coming along in the coming weeks, with the conference finals in the A-League being televised this Tuesday, followed by the championship on Aug. 20. Meanwhile, the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) will get its postseason underway next weekend, with one semifinal game being televised on PAX on Saturday, Aug. 16, followed by the other semifinal contest the following day on ESPN2. Founders Cup III will be shown live from San Diego Aug. 24 on ESPN2 starting at 4 p.m. Eastern time.
In addition to MLS and A-League coverage, FSW also has wall-to-wall coverage of soccer action worldwide, as well as coverage of rugby, cricket, and Australian Rules Football.
WNBA ACTION: With the WNBA regular season winding down, every game takes on added importance for the teams that want to see the postseason. And the league's TV partners will be at WNBA arenas in full force, with San Antonio playing at Seattle Tuesday night at 10 p.m. on Oxygen, followed by the red-hot Detroit Shock visiting the Phoenix Mercury the following night at 8 p.m. on NBA TV, if you can get either channel in your area. Additionally, the Houston Comets will look to peak at the right time when they pay a visit to New York to face the Comets in a Thursday night telecast on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. this week. Finally, wrap up the week with another WNBA telecast on NBA TV this Friday, as Seattle takes on Phoenix at 10 p.m. Eastern time, followed by the last regular season telecast on ABC with the Comets hosting the two time defending WNBA champion Los Angeles Sparks in a game that could decide the top spot in the Western Conference at 4 p.m. Eastern time, as well as another Eastern Conference match-up between Charlotte and Indiana on NBA TV starting at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
If that isn't enough, WNBA junkies can listen to audio coverage of all remaining regular-season games through the WNBA Broadband Season Pass by logging on to www.real.com, and locating the Super Pass page. It's too bad only credit card subscriptions online are allowed. Hey, Real Networks, how about inking a deal with Pay Pal so we non-credit card subscribers can subscribe to WNBA Broadband Season Pass!
AND FINALLY!!! The race for the Arena Cup in arenafootball2 is down to the final four teams, while in minor league baseball action, the pennant races are heating up in many circuits throughout North America. In af2 playoff semifinal action this week, the Tennessee Valley Vipers host the surprising Macon (Ga.) Knights in the American Conference championship game, while the Tulsa Talons will battle the Arkansas Twisters in the National Conference title game. Arena Cup IV will take place on Aug. 24 at a site yet to be determined. Remember to check the "Netcasts" page at OSC to find out which games are being streamed online. Who knows, you might be able to cheer your favorite team on to victory in these dog days of summer.
