Indoor Football League Announces Week Nine Vidswap.Com Players of the Week

April 28, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

Richmond, VA: The Indoor Football League is proud to announce the Week Nine Vidswap.com Players of the Week. As we begin the second half of the season, Week Nine provided the stiffest competition to date for the prestigious weekly honors. Each week the IFL selects three players, one from each phase of the game, offense, defense, and specials teams, whose play on the field stood out among the rest of the competition. Eleven games were featured in the ninth weekend of football and the following player's performances propelled them to Week Nine Vidswap.com Players of the Week.

Offensive Player of the Week: RB Mark Bonds, La Crosse Spartans

In a seesaw battle, the La Crosse Spartans fell short in their efforts to capture the first win in franchise history on Friday as they fell 65-58 to the West Michigan ThunderHawks. Despite the loss, there is reason to feel optimistic about the remainder of 2010 for the Spartans. They have improved each week and boast one of the most productive ball carriers in the IFL, RB Mark Bonds. Bonds possesses great field vision along with the rare combination of both speed and power. He was a workhorse for the Spartans on Friday as he carried the ball 15 times for 96 yards and reached the end zone an impressive 5 times in the contest. For the season, Bonds ranks 5th in both rushing yards (321) and rushing TD's (11). In Week Ten the Spartans will look to play the role of spoiler as they host the Chicago Slaughter.

Defensive Player of the Week: DB Kenneth Fontenette, Arkansas Diamonds

The Arkansas Diamonds outlasted the Abilene Ruff Riders 26-23 in Week Nine thanks to another outstanding performance by their swarming defense. The Diamonds defense is arguably the most dominate unit in any phase of the game throughout the entire IFL this season. The unit ranks first in the league, giving up only 23.3 points per game, has sacked opposing quarterbacks 22 times, and has scored 3 TD's off of turnovers thus far in 2010. One of those touchdowns occurred in the win on Saturday. DB Kenneth Fontenette was a ball hawk in the secondary as he intercepted 2 passes and broke up another. Both interceptions took place in the first quarter, the first occurring with the Ruff Riders threatening to score. Fontenette picked off a pass from QB Robert Kent in his own end zone then streaked down the sideline returning the ball the length of the field for the score. Fontenette then intercepted another pass later in the quarter which set up a field goal by K Brian Umstead. The Diamonds will continue to rely on their vaunted defense as the race for the playoffs ensues. They host the West Texas Roughnecks in Week Ten.

Special Teams Player of the Week: KR B.J. Hill, Green Bay Blizzard

KR B.J. Hill turned in another outstanding performance in the return game as the Green Bay Blizzard edged the Omaha Beef 50-49. Hill covered 175 yards on 6 returns and continually gave the Blizzard excellent field position at the beginning of drives. He ranks 5th in the league with 483 return yards and ranks 1st averaging 22.0 yards per kick return (among returners with at least 10 returns on the season). Hill was also a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball as he tallied 4 tackles, intercepted a pass, and broke up 3 others. The Blizzard will get some much deserved rest this week as they have a bye in Week Ten.

The IFL season continues with Week Ten on Friday April 30th when the Billings Outlaws travel to take on the Kent Predators and the La Crosse Spartans host the Chicago Slaughter. You can view live broadcasts of IFL games all season long at www.b2livetv.com.
