Soo Indians News Release
The 2003-04 Indians hockey team has not only had success on the ice; they've also excelled off the ice in the classroom. This year's team has a combined Grade-Point-Average of 3.16 (High B-Average), making them the smartest team the Indians have rostered in their 9-year history. 14-players have a 3.0 (B-Average) or higher grade-point average, including 2-players with over 4.0 GPA's. Indians forward Derek Punches (4.346 GPA) and forward Rob Nowinski (4.042 GPA) both have A+ status grade-points.
With a grueling practice schedule, work schedule, and game schedule including over 56-games; in addition to their responsibilities in school, all of these players "making the grade" should be commended for their outstanding commitment to education. The Indians organization would also like to announce they commend all of their players for their hard work and dedication in the classroom, and are proud to be associated with these outstanding young athletes.
A recent example of classroom excellence was recognized on January 27th, 2004, when the Sault Area High School & Career Center commended Indians defenseman Marc "Tiger" Marcotte for his significant contributions during this past marking period in the Career Technical Program of Account & Financial Services. A special congratulatory letter was issue by Director of the Career Technical Education Director, Julie Truckey in recognition of his efforts.
