Independence Fall to Fury
June 3, 2019 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Charlotte Independence News Release
Ottawa (Ontario) - The Charlotte Independence, reduced to nine-players after two red cards, fell to Ottawa Fury FC at TD Place on Sunday. Independence defender Hugh Roberts headed in a 14th minute corner kick from Adboulie Mansally, which gave the away side an early lead.
However, the Independence conceded two goals in consecutive minutes giving Ottawa a halftime lead. Fury forward Moar Samb scored twice and added two assists. Independence defenders Hugh Roberts and Joel Johnson were sent off on straight red cards. Both players will miss the next game with a one-game suspension.
Three Independence players missed Sunday's match with Ottawa while being called into international team duty; defender Andrew Gutman, midfielder Kevan George, and midfielder Micheal Maria. George representing Trinidad & Tobago and Maria representing Curacoa will likely factor into the side's CONCACAF Gold Cup rosters.
The Independence will continue into the final game of a four-game away stretch next Saturday at Swope Park Rangers. The official watch party will be hosted at Jack's House Soccer Bar and Event Space. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM ET. The Independence will return home on Saturday, June 15th versus Birmingham Legion FC. Tickets are now on sale.
