Independence Extend Unbeaten Run Past Pittsburgh

Charlotte (NC) - On July 7th, the Charlotte Independence beat the Pittsburgh Riverhounds growing their unbeaten streak to six games. The Independence notched a 1-0 victory with a goal in the 23rd minute by forward, Alex Martínez.

Coming off a one-goal performance against North Carolina FC, Independence forward Niki Jackson held off the Pittsburgh defenders and nudged a ball toward Alex Martinez who chipped the goalkeeper. The goal was Martinez's first at the Sportsplex at Matthews since the Grand Opening of the Sportsplex at Matthews in 2017.

With a total of 26 fouls and possession being equal at 50% for both sides, the performance marked a hard-fought win . As the intensity of the game rose, two yellow cards in the 68th and 94th minute were given to the Riverhounds.

The Independence will play again on Saturday, July 13th against Saint Louis FC. This game will be held at the Sportsplex at Matthews and wil be preceded by the 5th Annual Charlotte Fire vs. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department charity soccer game.
