PIKEVILLE, KY. - Kentucky players joined with hoopsters from 13 other states and one foreign country during the East Kentucky Miners free agent camp held Saturday, Sept. 6 at the East Kentucky Expo Center. Other states represented in the camp were North Carolina, Georgia, Wisconsin, South Carolina, Ohio, Missouri, Maryland, California. Mississippi, Virginia, Michigan, Alabama and Maine. Nearly a quarter of the players in attendance at the free agent camp had Kentucky ties.

Lexington native Jaron Brown brought one of the most impressive resumes to the free agent camp. Brown, a 6-4 guard, played four seasons for the University of Pittsburgh. He averaged 10.7 points and 5 rebounds per game during his junior season with the Panthers. As a senior, Brown averaged 11.7 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. The Lexington native participated in the 2004 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (Pre-NBA Draft). He attended Bryan Station High School in Lexington.

Recent Georgetown College standouts Gordon (Gus) Chase and Justin Taylor more than held their own during the free agent session. Taylor is a Lexington native who previously starred at Tates Creek High School. Chase a native of Baltimore, Md., was an NAIA First Team All-American in the spring. Joe Buck, a California native who played at USC, ventured to the camp from Lexington - his new home. Buck had one of the best overall performances of the camp.

"I was pleased with the turnout for the camp," said East Kentucky Miners Coach Kevin Keathley. "Some of the players who attended the free agent camp will definitely be invited back for the veteran's camp. Right now, we're still evaluating players."

The East Kentucky professional basketball organization continues to prepare for the 2008-09 season. The Miners will hold a press conference on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 11:30 a.m. upstairs in the East Kentucky Expo Center.
