Edwards adds international touch to EK Miners free agent camp

PIKEVILLE, KY. - Less than a month after the conclusion of the 2008 Olympics, East Kentucky Miners head coach Kevin Keathley had an opportunity to evaluate some international talent up close as Canadian Sherone Edwards visited Eastern Kentucky. Edwards was one of the 26 participants in the East Kentucky Miners free agent camp held Saturday, Sept. 6 at the East Kentucky Expo Center. Edwards, a 6-4 shooting guard/small forward from Ontario, displayed his athleticism throughout the free agent camp.

"Sherone Edwards is quite an athlete," said Keathley. "I was impressed with his athleticism and the way he handled himself."

Edwards played his college basketball at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI). In 26 games during the 2005-06 season, Edwards averaged 21.7 points. 7.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. He hit 53.2-percent of his shots from the floor during the 21.7 points per game campaign. During that same season, Edwards shot 33.3-percent from behind the three-point line.

Edwards earned the following honors during his college career: All-Canadian CIS First Team (2005); Canadian University All-Star Game selection(2006); Atlantic Division First Team (2006); CIS All-Canadian Second Team (2006).

The East Kentucky Miners professional basketball organization is gearing up for the 2008 CBA Draft on Tuesday, Sept. 23.
