Montreal Impact News Release
CHARLESTON - The Montreal Impact clinched its first win of the season, Saturday, beating the Charleston Battery 3-2 at Blackbaud Stadium, in Charleston, South Carolina.
Martin Fabro (3rd minute), with his first career-goal with the Impact, Charles Gbeke (8th) and Leonardo Di Lorenzo (45th), with his second goal of the season, scored for the Impact, all in the first half. Ian Fuller (4th) and Stephen Armstrong (90th), in injury time on a penalty kick, scored for the Battery.
"To score three goals on the road and to win this way is very positive," said Impact head coach Nick De Santis. "It's a great team win. The game was wide open in the first 20 minutes and we could have scored five goals. It's good to see the team show that much character."
"We played offensively and it's very positive," said Impact forward Charles Gbeke, who scored a goal in his first start this season. "It's not easy to play here and we're very pleased to leave Charleston with three points. "
The Impact had another great scoring opportunity when midfielder Matthew Palleschi hit the cross bar in the 43rd minute with a 20-yard shot.
Goalkeeper Matt Jordan, who started his second consecutive match this season, registered his first career win with the Impact, facing eight shots.
Montreal remains undefeated in two games, following a 2-2 tie last week in Atlanta.
The Impact will play its next two matches on the road, and will take on the Miami FC, Saturday, May 5, at Tropical Park Stadium (8:00 pm, CJAD, USLlive.com).
The Impact will play its 14th home opener at Claude-Robillard Sports Complex, Sunday, May 20, against the Seattle Sounders.
