Montreal Impact News Release
FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida - The Montreal Impact shut out Lynn University 5-0 (3-0 at halftime), Saturday morning, in its first pre-season game in Florida.
Forward Roberto Brown scored two goals in the first half, scoring on a penalty in one occasion. Team captain Mauro Biello also scored twice, while midfielder Leonardo Di Lorenzo found the back of the net in the second half.
"We did well by creating a lot of scoring chances and by making many goals," said Impact head coach Nick De Santis. "We moved the ball well for 90 minutes and they did not give any problems to our defense. It's great to see the team's progression and to realize that at the same date, we are in better shape than in previous years."
"The outcome today is showing that the preparation provided by the club is giving results," noted midfielder Antonio Ribeiro, who came into the game in the second half. The team chemistry is very good and we're having fun playing together. It's great to score five goals in the same game. Everything is working well."
Goalkeeper Andrew Olivieri, defenders Nevio Pizzolitto, Stefano Pesoli, Simon Gatti and Adam Braz, midfielders Matthew Palleschi, Cristian Nunez, David Testo and Joey Gjertsen, as well as Roberto Brown and Dwight Barnett, were in the starting lineup for the Impact.
"The guest players did well during the game," said De Santis. "Barnett notably had three good scoring chances against his former team."
The Impact registered its third win at training camp, after having concluded the two camps in Italy and Portugal with a record of two wins, two losses and two ties.
The Impact will face its USL First Division rivals, the Miami FC Blues, Sunday, March 30.
