Montreal Impact News Release
ROCHESTER, New York - The Montreal Impact (4-5-5) lost 2-1 against the Rochester Rhinos (7-3-4), Saturday, at Paetec Park, in Rochester.
Rhinos defender Troy Roberts opened the scoring during first half stoppage time. Off a free kick in Montreal territory, Impact goalkeeper Srdjan Djekanovic and defender Stephen deRoux collided in the box, giving Roberts an open net to score on.
The Rhinos doubled their lead in the 85th minute when midfielder Rich Costanzo scored his second goal of the season, after a deak on Djekanovic.
At the top of the penalty area, Impact forward Reda Agourram, who entered the match in the 55th minute, reduced the Rhinos lead to one goal when he headed a cross form midfielder Filipe Soares during the second half stoppage time.
« This is a disappointing result that does not help us," said team captain Nevio Pizzolitto. "We were in the game until the Rhinos second goal. In the second half we had many chances and showed a lot of intensity, but not enough to come back to Montreal with a few points."
In the 61st minute, Rhinos goalkeeper Neal Kitson stopped back to back shots from Roberto Brown and Tony Donatelli, following a cross by midfielder Philippe Billy.
The Impact had another excellent scoring chance in the 77th minute, when Donatelli let a shot away, after a cross by Billy.
Academy midfielder Kevin Cossette made his debut with the first team. Cossette replaced Patrick Leduc in the 82nd minute.
The Rhinos are currently in second place in the USL Conference of the USSF Second Division. Bob Lilley's squad is currently undefeated in its last six regular season games.
Impact defender Adam Braz left the game in the 27th minute with a hip injury.
Goalkeeper Matt Jordan (groin), midfielder David Testo (thigh), forward Eduardo Sebrango (groin), as well as defenders Stefano Pesoli (toe) and Hicham Aaboubou (personal reasons) were not available for tonight's game.
The Montreal squad will play its next game in St. Louis on July 10. The Impact will then return home on July 14 against the Carolina RailHawks. Tickets for that game are still available through Admission (514-790-1245 / 1-800-361-4595 / admission.com), or at Saputo Stadium.
