Montreal Impact News Release

ST.LOUIS, Missouri - The Montreal Impact (4-6-5) completed its first half of the season in the USSF Second division with a 3-0 loss to AC St. Louis (3-8-3), Saturday, at Anheuser-Busch Park. "We simply didn't show up tonight," declared Impact head coach Marc Dos Santos. "We knew what we had to do to win, but we did nothing to get the three points."

"To win games in our league, you have to go to war," added Dos Santos. "And to go to war you need men that are ready to pay the price. We need players that are ready to work every day. It is hard to win, it takes energy and heart. Maybe playing for the Impact is to much pressure for some."

Midfielder Chris Salvaggione, who made his entry into the match in the 32nd minute, opened the scoring for St. Louis in the 57th minute. On the play, midfielder Leonardo Di Lorenzo headed a shot off his goal line, but Salvaggione was able to score on the rebound.

St. Louis doubled its lead five minutes later by capatilizing on a defensive mistake by Montreal. Midfielder Luke Kraemalmeyer intercepted a pass near the six-meter box and beat Djekanovic, who had no chance on the play.

Impact goalkeeper Srdjan Djekanovic, who started his 8th straight match, came up big in the 87th minute when he dove to his right to stop the ball with the tips of his fingers.

The Impact played the last 18 minutes of the game shorthanded after midfielder David Testo was ejected, this after receiving his second yellow card of the match.

Midfielder Filipe Soares also received a caution in the first half. He will serve a one-game suspension because it was his fifth card of the campaign.

The Impact had its best scoring chance in the 18th minute after a free kick was taken 30 meters from goal, but St .Louis goalkeeper Alec Dufty dove to his left to make the save.

The Montreal squad was able to benefit from their team captain Nevio Pizzolitto's return, also midfielder David Testo and central defender Hicham Aaboubou.

Goalkeeper Matt Jordan (groin) and Andrei Badescu (knee), as well as defender Adam Braz (hip) did not travel with their teammates to St. Louis due to injury.

St. Louis, which has lost only once in his its last five matches, is one of three expansion teams in the league this year. The two teams will see each other again on July 21 in Montreal.

The Impact will return home Sunday and the next four games will be at Saputo Stadium. The Impact will play the Carolina RailHawks on Wednesday July 14.
