Illinois Piasa News Release

Pontoon Beach, IL, 10/31/13 - Illinois Piasa have re-signed PASL veteran Greg Crook for the 2013-14 PASL season. Greg was born in Columbia, Illinois and played his youth soccer for national powerhouse St. Louis Scott Gallagher. He played high school soccer at Columbia High School where he earned All-Conference, All-Sectional, All-State, and All-Region honors. Greg went on to have a standout career as a goalkeeper at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville where he won a multitude of awards including being named All-American. He was the starting keeper for the SIUE team that played in the NCAA Division II National Championship game. Crook is a veteran of the PASL having played for the St. Louis Illusion and Illinois Piasa. Greg has also played for the Harrisburg City Islanders in USL-1.

"What makes Greg so unique is that he was an elite keeper in the PASL before hurting his shoulder and having surgery, but returned to the PASL as a forward. In 8 games he recorded 10 goals and 5 assists. I have coached and played with many keepers over the years that thought they could play in the field, but Greg proved that he can. This signing is so exciting because he can contribute on the field and he gives us the flexibility to use only 1 of our 14 roster spots per game to suit up a goalkeeper, as Greg is more than capable of being a backup keeper," said Montroy of Crook, "He is a great athlete that possesses power, strength, and is technically sound. His experience will definitely be an asset to this year's squad, as will his willingness and ability to play any position on the field."

Illinois Piasa opens the 2013-14 PASL season at home on November 1 against the expansion team Tulsa Revolution. Kickoff is 7:35 pm at The Field Sports Complex in Pontoon Beach, Illinois. Tickets are available at www.IllinoisPiasa.com/tickets/ or by calling 618-334-5700.
