Illinois Piasa News Release

Head Coach Jerry Lakin and the Illinois Piasa proudly announce that local product and former St. Louis Illusion player Chris Mattingly has agreed to terms with the club. Chris was born and raised in St. Louis, MO and attended high school at Chaminade. Growing up he played club soccer for St. Louis Scott Gallagher and won several state and regional titles as well as a National Championship in 2000. After that he moved on to NCAA Division I with Drury University. He also played well enough to receive two awards: Defensive Player of the Year in the 2003-04 season and the John E. Moore Award for his team leadership and dedication.

Last season Chris did dual duty playing for the St. Louis Illusion while maintaining a full time job as a Medical Sales Rep and husband. This past August he and his wife of three years, Stacy, welcomed their first child Bella. Chris will be looked to for team leadership along with his skill as a player. He will wear #6 and play on defense.

"I think that my main thing, that I'm looking to do is to rebuild, or help build to where they've been in the last couple years and make us a known name in the PASL arena and really the main focus for me is the conference games and we can put the hurtin' on some of the guys that are local and maybe get some recognition and get games across the country like in California," says Chris regarding his focus on the new team in the PASL Frontier Division.
