
IHL Weekly Honors For Week Twenty-Two

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Bloomington center Jon Booras has been named the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week, Port Huron defenseman Derek Merlini has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and Fort Wayne goaltender Nick Boucher has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 15th, 2009.
Booras completed the week notching in four goals and dishing out three assists for seven points in four games played. He scored two of his four goals on the power play, one in the 4-2 win in Muskegon Saturday and another Sunday in the 4-3 loss vs. Fort Wayne. Booras is currently riding a six-game point streak where he has scored 11 points (6g, 5a). He also has recorded points in nine of his last 10 games, with seven of those nine games being multi-point games. The 26-year-old Billings, Montana native currently leads the PrairieThunder in scoring with 84 points (36g, 48a). His 84 points set a new PrairieThunder franchise record of points in a season, previously held by Don Parons, who set the record last season with 81 points.
Other players nominated for the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week include: Flint left wing Jeff Zehr, Fort Wayne defenseman Rod Aldoff, Kalamazoo right wing Dominic Osman, Muskegon left wing Chad Woollard and Port Huron left wing Tab Lardner.
Merlini finished the week dishing out three assists and had a plus/minus rating of plus-3 in three games played by the Icehawks. He knocked out two assists in Port Huron's 9-1 win over Flint Saturday with one of those coming on the power play. Sunday, he added another helper on the Icehawks fifth goal in their 7-3 win over Muskegon on Sunday. The 23-year-old Clinton Township, Michigan continues to lead the league in plus/minus with a plus-28 rating in 61 games played.
Other players nominated for the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington defenseman Nick Goyens, Flint center Jordan Boman, Fort Wayne left wing Olivier Legault, Kalamazoo center Tommy Lange and Muskegon left wing Alec Kirschner.
Boucher was solid between the pipes for the Komets once again, earning a 2-0-0-0 record. He completed the week with three goals against in the two games played, giving him a 1.50 goals against average. He made 34 saves on 35 shots he faced from the first-place Port Huron Icehawks Friday night. He made another 23 saves on 25 shots from Kalamazoo the following night, posting a .912 save percentage for the week. The 28-year-old Cobble Hill, British Columbia native is riding a three-game win streak for the third time this season. Boucher is leading all IHL goalies in goals against average (2.64) and save percentage (.912).
Other players nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Jason Wolfe, Flint's Chad Alban, Kalamazoo's Jason Tapp, Muskegon's Clayton Pool and Port Huron's Ryan Mior.
