
IHL Weekly Honors For Week Twenty-Four

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Bloomington forward Don Parsons has been named the National City IHL Forward of the Week, Port Huron defenseman Jamie Lovell has been named the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week, Port Huron forward Jamie Carroll has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and Port Huron goaltender Marty Magers has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, March 30th, 2008.
Parsons completed the week putting up eight points. He scored five goals and three assists in four games played by the PrairieThunder. He scored four of his five goals Sunday in Bloomington's 7-6 overtime victory in Flint. Parsons scored the game-winning goal 2:47 into overtime on the man-advantage. The Boston, Massachusetts native currently leads Bloomington in scoring with 72 points (35g, 37a) and is riding a three-game point streak (5g, 3a).
Other players nominated for the National City IHL Forward of the Week include: Flint forward Michel Beausoleil, Fort Wayne right wing Luciano Aquino, Kalamazoo left wing Nick Bootland, Muskegon center Billy Collins and Port Huron center Brent Hughes.
Lovell becomes the third Icehawk to earn the weekly defensive honors. He dished out three assists last week, putting up points in all three games played. He also registered a plus-four rating. Lovell has scored points in seven of his last eight games. The Elora, Ontario native is the Icehawks top scoring defenseman, posting 29 points (7g, 22a) so far this season. Lovell's 29 points put him sixth among IHL defenseman in scoring.
Other defenseman nominated for the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Week include: Bloomington's Rod Aldoff, Flint's Nick Tuzzolino, Fort Wayne's Guy Dupuis, Kalamazoo's Jamie Vanderveeken and Muskegon's Philippe Plante.
Carroll earns the rookie of the week honor for the fifth time this season. He compiled five points in three games last week, scoring three goals and adding two assists. He scored the game winning goal for the Icehawks Friday night, defeating the Generals by a score of 8-2. The Andover, Connecticut native is ranked second among IHL rookies in scoring with 62 points (26g, 36a) and leads all rookies in shots on goal with 294. Carroll is also Port Huron's top scoring rookie so far this season.
Other players nominated for the Aquafina Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington goaltender Loic Lacasse, Flint forward Justin DePretis, Fort Wayne center Mathieu Curadeau, Kalamazoo defenseman Jamie Vanderveeken and Muskegon left wing Dan Riedel.
Magers completed the week with a 1-0-0-1 record, playing 125 minutes and stopping 63 shots. He posted a .940 save percentage and a 1.92 goals against average, only allowing four goals against. He stopped all 30 shots he faced from Bloomington Wednesday to earn his first shutout of the season. The Chicago, Illinois native surpassed 5,000 minutes in his professional career last week. Magers is ranked fourth with IHL goaltenders in goals against average (2.89) and is fifth in save percentage (.904).
Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Loic Lacasse, Flint's Eric Marvin, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucer, Kalamazoo's Jeff Reynaert and Muskegon's Isaac Reichmuth.
