
IHL Monthly Honors For March

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Tuesday that Fort Wayne left wing P.C. Drouin has been named the National City IHL Forward of the Month, Kalamazoo defenseman Jamie Vanderveeken has been named the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Month, Muskegon left wing Dan Riedel has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Month and Bloomington goaltender Loic Lacasse has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Month for March.
Drouin completed the month scoring 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points. He led the Komets in scoring for the month, putting up points in 12 of his 14 games played. Of those 12 games, eight of them he registered more than one point. He scored four goals and six assists on the Komets power play. The 33-year-old St. Lambert, Quebec native is second on the Komets roster in scoring with 69 points (22g, 47a). Drouin wraps up the month on a four game point streak (1g, 6a) as well as a four game assist streak (6a).
Other players nominated for the National City IHL Forward of the Month include: Bloomington right wing Don Parsons, Flint forward Michel Beausoleil, Kalamazoo left wing Nick Bootland, Muskegon left wing Dan Riedel and Port Huron left wing Jeff Zehr.
Vanderveeken wrapped up the month of March putting up 13 points in 14 games played, posting a plus-seven rating. Of those 14 games, he posted points in eight of them. He scored four goals, two on the man advantage, and dished out nine assists. The 22-year-old Wallaceburg, Ontario native is the K-Wings most productive defenseman, putting up 32 points (14g, 18a) in his rookie season. Vanderveeken currently is tied for first among IHL defenseman in goals scored (14) and leads in power play goals (8).
Other defenseman nominated for the Pepsi IHL Defenseman of the Month include: Bloomington's Rod Aldoff, Flint's Nick Tuzzolino, Fort Wayne's Guy Dupuis, Muskegon's Adam Bartholomay and Port Huron's Jamie Lovelll.
Riedel finished the month scoring 21 points in 16 games played by the Fury in the month of March. He scored 11 goals and 10 assists, posting a plus-five rating. He had seven multi-point games, putting up points in 14 out of the 16 games. Riedel is third in scoring among IHL rookies with 49 points (27g, 22a). The 22-year-old Ann Arbor, Michigan native is currently riding a 13-game point streak, the second longest active streak in the IHL. He has scored 19 points during the streak.
Other players nominated for the Aquafina Rookie of the Month include: Bloomington forward Neil Clark, Flint forward Justin DePretis, Fort Wayne right wing Luciano Aquino, Kalamazoo defenseman Jamie Vanderveeken and Port Huron forward Jamie Carroll.
Lacasse started the month of March without a loss in regulation in five straight games he started, losing only in a shootout and in a 0-1 overtime loss to Kalamazoo. He ended the month of March with a 5-2-1-1 record. He played just over 493 minutes, posting a 0.935 save percentage and 2.43 goals against average. He made a total of 290 saves, only allowing 20 goals scored against him for the month. The 21-year-old Granby, Quebec native is third among IHL goaltenders in saves with 1,263 and is fourth in minutes played (2425:06) and save percentage (.907).
Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Month include: Flint's Eric Marvin, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Kalamazoo's Jeff Reynaert, Muskegon's Clayton Pool and Port Huron's Larry Sterling.
