IHL Announces Weekly Honors

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Muskegon forward John DiPace has been named the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week, Muskegon right wing Chad Costello has been named the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week and Port Huron goaltender Ryan Mior has been named the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, February 22nd, 2009.

DiPace made a strong impact on his new team this week after a trade from Flint sent him to Muskegon. He recorded a total of seven points (4g, 3a) and has a plus/minus rating of plus-four in three games played. He had a big night Saturday, his first meeting against his former team, notching in four points (1g, 3a) in Muskegon's 9-3 win over the Generals. Sunday, he scored his first game-winning goal as a Lumberjack, which was his second power play goal of the night in the 3-2 victory over Flint. The 26-year-old Clinton Township, Michigan native is currently tied for seventh among IHL players in scoring with 28 goals and 30 assists (58 points). His 28 goals also ranks him third in the IHL in goals scored.

Other players nominated for the Pepsi IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington center Jon Booras, Flint right wing Frank Littlejohn, Fort Wayne defenseman Guy Dupuis, Kalamazoo forward Anthony Battaglia and Port Huron right wing Jamie Carroll.

Costello completed Week 19 of his rookie season notching in three goals and dishing out two assists for five points in three games. He is currently riding a three game point streak, notching in points in four out of his last five games. Saturday night, Costello scored a goal and had two assists, giving him his sixth multi-point game this season. The 22-year-old Johnston, Iowa is currently third among active IHL rookies in scoring with 13 goals and 22 assists (35 points). His 22 assists also rank him third among rookies in that category.

Other players nominated for the Aquafina IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington defenseman Russ Smith, Fort Wayne right wing Sean O'Connor, Kalamazoo center Bryan Jurynec and Port Huron goaltender Ryan Mior.

Mior finished the week with a 1-0-1-0 record in two games played against the PrairieThunder this week. The rookie goaltender earned his league-leading third shutout Wednesday in a 1-0 win over the PrairieThunder, turning aside all 25 shots he faced. He lost in overtime in the rematch Saturday night, still only giving up two goals against. The 21-year-old St. John's, Newfoundland native currently has a 5-1-2-1 record, with a 1.72 goals against average and a .941 save percentage in nine games played. Mior has not lost in regulation in his last four starts, earning a 2-0-2-0 record in those games.

Other players nominated for the Southern Sports Supply IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Jason Wolfe, Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Kalamazoo's Jason Tapp and Muskegon's Clayton Pool.
