IHL Announces Weekly Honors For Week Twelve

ROCHESTER, MI--- The International Hockey League (IHL) announced Monday that Quad City right wing Patrick Levesque has been named the IHL Player of the Week, Port Huron defenseman Mike Gershon has been named the IHL Rookie of the Week and Quad City goaltender Jerad Kaufmann has been named the IHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Levesque wrapped up the week scoring seven points in four games played by the Mallards. He scored five goals and dished out two assists, going plus-five for the week. He scored the game- winning goal Thursday in the Mallards 6-1 victory over the first place Muskegon Lumberjacks. Levesque recorded two goals and one assist that night, which tied his biggest point output in a single game. He has recorded multi-point games in five of the last eight contests. Levesque is currently riding a five-game point streak, recording six goals and three assists (nine points) during the streak. The 25-year-old Trois-Rivieres, Quebec native is currently leading the Mallards in scoring with 33 points (17 g, 16 a) in 30 games played. His 33 points also ranks him fourth in the IHL in scoring.

Other players nominated for the IHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington left wing Robin Gomez, Dayton forward John Snowden, Flint right wing John Ronan, Fort Wayne right wing David Hukalo, Muskegon right wing Robin Bouchard and Port Huron left wing Mickael Bedard.

Gershon finished Week Twelve of his rookie season dishing out five points in three games, with a plus-three rating. He scored two goals and had three assists for the week, with his first three-point night of the season coming last Saturday in the Icehawks 7-2 win over Muskegon. He scored the game-winning goal and had two assists that night, both assists coming on the power play. Gershon had just five points in his first 19 games, but has heated up as of late, scoring 11 points in his last eight contests. The 25-year-old Sparta, New Jersey native is currently riding a four-game point streak, registering two goals and five assists (seven points) during that span.

Other players nominated for the IHL Rookie of the Week include: Bloomington defenseman Noel Coultice, Dayton forward Mike Vaskivuo, Flint right wing John Mori, Fort Wayne right wing Sean O'Connor, Muskegon defenseman Matt Krug and Quad City defenseman Jacques Perreault.

Kaufmann completed the week with an undefeated 2-0-0-0 record. On New Year's Eve, he stopped 34 of 35 shots against the first-place Lumberjacks, allowing just one goal against. The rookie netminder earned his first professional shutout in his next start on Saturday, turning aside all 42 shots he faced from the Bloomington PrairieThunder. The shutout was also the first for the Mallards this season. The 25-year-old Roseville, Minnesota native has compiled a 3-2-2-0 record, with a 2.34 goals against average and a.936 save percentage in seven starts since joining the Mallards on December 7th.

Other goaltenders nominated for the IHL Goaltender of the Week include: Bloomington's Andrew Martin, Dayton's Derek MacIntyre, Flint's Rob Nolan, Fort Wayne's Tim Haun, Muskegon's Sebastien Centomo and Port Huron's Larry Sterling.
