IFL Week Sixteen Preview
Published on June 30, 2023 under Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
With just three weeks left in the 2023 IFL regular season, there is still much to be decided. Only four of the eight playoff teams have been decided and only one of those has clinched home field.
Week 16 begins in Frisco as the 11-2 Fighters will host the 7-5 Sioux Falls Storm. Frisco, now being led by interim head coach Andre Coles, has already clinched home field. Sioux Falls sits in the fourth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, with only a one game lead over Green Bay. A win in Frisco would go a long way in advancing the Storm's playoff aspirations. Sioux Falls will follow the Frisco game by traveling to Iowa and then host Massachusetts to close out the season.
Green Bay is only one game out of the playoff picture and will travel to face the 1-12 Tulsa Oilers. While Tulsa only has one win, they have been competitive against some of the best teams in the league. The Oilers will have multiple opportunities to play spoiler over the final weeks of the season. The Blizzard, led by Maxwell Meylor, will face Tulsa, Quad City and Tucson in the final three weeks as the push to make the playoffs.
The final two spots in the West are still up for grabs. Tucson is in the third spot, but they can't let up as Northern Arizona is on their heels. San Diego and Duke City could still make a run as well. Tucson is set to host Vegas on Saturday. Vegas has been eliminated from playoff contention but with the talent on their roster, anything could happen. With NAZ, Duke City and San Diego on byes this week, all eyes will be on Tucson.
The week culminates with two of the best rosters in the IFL going head-to-head. Both Arizona and Massachusetts have clinched a playoff berth but where they land in the standings is still to be determined. Postseason home field advantage is on the minds of both squads, as well as the opportunity to take down one of the best teams in the other conference. This game will feature two top tier squads in an electric environment. There will be fireworks.
Week 16 features four games and once again, every game holds playoff implications. It kicks off with Frisco (11-2) hosting Sioux Falls (7-5) on Friday and ends with Massachusetts (9-3) traveling to Arizona (9-4) on Sunday. All games can be streamed on the IFL YouTube channel.
