IFL playoff schedule set
Published on June 30, 2008 under Intense Football League (Intense) News Release
Corpus Christi, Texas: The fourth and most successful season in the Intense Football League came to an end this past weekend. The IFL had to wait until the final game of the 2008 Regular Season to conclude to announce playoff pairings, as it had direct bearing on playoff seeds. The Louisiana Swashbucklers and the Corpus Christi Hammerheads secured the first round bye. The Odessa Roughnecks will host the Frisco Thunder and the CenTex Barracudas will host the Alaska Wild, in round one action.
The owners of the nine teams voted on Sunday, June 29, to extend the playoffs back one week. "We had a situation where our CenTex team earned the right to host their round one game, but their arena was not available to them on July 5th," stated Robert Winfrey, IFL Director of Communications. "Our owners did not want to penalize the Barracudas and their fans of the right to host the first game, so they voted to extend the playoffs back one week. Round one will be played over a two weekend period."
The Odessa Roughnecks will play their game against the Frisco Thunder Saturday, July 5 at 7:11pm CST. Round 1 will conclude with the CenTex Barracudas at home for the Alaska Wild on July 12 at 7:05pm CST. Round 2 will find the highest remaining seeded team from round one playing in Corpus Christi on July 19 at 6:05pm CST. The Louisiana will host their game on Monday July 21 at 7:05 CST against the lowest remaining seed from round one.
The Intense Bowl 4 will be played at the highest remaining seeded team's arena. That game will be played on either July 26 or July 28, depending on who hosts the game. "We are excited that each game will not have to compete with another playoff game being played at the same time," said Winfrey. "The ability to showcase each of our games to fans of the IFL and around the country, could not have worked out better."
