IFL Names Week 14 Players of the Week
May 25, 2016 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
The Indoor Football League (IFL) is proud to announce the Vidswap.com Players of the Week for Week 14 of the 2016 IFL season.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tyler Williams (RB, Wichita Falls Nighthawks)
For the second week in a row, Wichita Falls RB Tyler Williams has been named IFL Offensive Player of the Week. A week after rushing for 125 yards and three touchdowns, Williams (5'7,175, Akron) accounted for seven total touchdowns in the Nighthawks 62-48 rally over the Nebraska Danger. Williams proved to be a workhorse near the endzone as he rushed for six touchdowns on 17 carries. The Nighthawks running back added another touchdown through the air. The six rushing touchdowns ties Williams with the second-most in IFL single game history. This is Williams' third IFL Player of the Week selection this season after being named IFL Special Teams Player of the Week in Week 4 and Offensive Player of the Week in Week 13. The Wichita Falls Nighthawks travel to Nebraska to face a rematch with the Danger in Week 15.
Honorable Mention: Damien Fleming (QB, Colorado Crush), Cory Murphy (QB, Billings Wolves), Bryan Pray (WR, Iowa Barnstormers), Mike Tatum (WR, Sioux Falls Storm)
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Nikolas Sierra (LB, Cedar Rapids Titans)
The Iowa Bowl trophy stays in Cedar Rapids as the Titans defeated in-state rival the Iowa Barnstormers 46-33. The Titans have now won four consecutive games and have allowed just 52 combined points in the last three games , fewest in the IFL over that span. Key to the defensive success is LB Nikolas Sierra. Sierra (6'3,240, Sacred Heart) helped turn the Titans tide against the Barnstormers as he recorded a statistic in almost every defensive category. Sierra recorded six tackles, three tackles for loss, one sack, one fumble recovery and two interceptions. His first interception helped the Titans distance themselves from the Barnstormers as he returned the interception 15 yards for a touchdown, giving the Titans an 18-point lead. Sierra and the Titans enjoy a bye week in Week 15 before traveling to face a rematch against the Barnstormers in Week 16.
Honorable Mention: Marcell Coke Jr. (DB, Tri-Cities Fever), Karl Mickelsen (LB, Green Bay Blizzard), Jabari Gorman (DB, Nebraska Danger), Tyree Robinson (DB, Spokane Empire)
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Lorenzo White Jr. (DB, Spokane Empire)
The Spokane Empire finished a season sweep of in-state rival the Tri-Cities Fever dousing the Fever 45-23. Late in the first half, Spokane DB Lorenzo White's huge special teams play helped give the Empire a lead they would not extinguish. With just seven seconds remaining in the first half, White (6'0,185, Central Michigan) broke though the Fever's offensive line and blocked the Fever's late field goal attempt. White then recovered it and scored a touchdown to give the Empire a 39-9 halftime lead. White also provided assistance on defense as he finished the game with three tackles. The Empire travel to face the Colorado Crush in Week 15.
Honorable Mention: Nicholas Belcher (K, Cedar Rapids Titans), Spencer Groner (K, Colorado Crush), Rashard Smith (KR, Colorado Crush), Justin Syrovatka (K, Sioux Falls Storm)
