July 7, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
THURSDAY, JULY 9 - FAIRBANKS GRIZZLIES (6-7) @ ALASKA WILD (0-13), 7:05 PM The last week of the Inaugural IFL regular season kicks off with another battle in the heart of Alaska. The Grizzlies clinched their first ever playoff berth two weekends ago and hope to use this game as a warmup before they host division rival Colorado next week. The offense continues to be led by the combo of QB Justin Rummell and WR Lonnie Sanders. The pair have hooked up for 64 receptions, 839 yards, and 23 touchdowns this season The Wild are in play for pride mode now as their regular season winds down. A win this weekend could go a long way for this teams psyche heading into next season The player to watch in this game is once again Demarcus James. The Wild DB and Kick Returner has now brought back nine kicks for touchdowns and has totaled over 1,600 return yards.
SATURDAY, JULY 11 - BILLINGS OUTLAWS (12-1) @ OMAHA BEEF (10-3), 7:05 PM The Week 18 IFL Game of the Week pits the Billings Outlaws against the Omaha Beef. The Outlaws are hoping to avenge their lone los of the season against the Beef way back on April 18th. Billings has been lights out since that little hiccup and is considered by many fans as the favorite to win this years United Bowl Trophy. QB Chris Dixon had thrown for an astounding 66 touchdown passes this season. The Beef currently hold a ½ game lead over Bloomington for the top spot in the Central Division, however need another big win over Billings to guarantee a first round bye in the playoffs. Omaha is led by standout Quarterback James McNear. The dual threat signal caller has thrown 36 touchdown passes and ran for another 15 scores.
SATURDAY, JULY 11 - EL PASO GENERALS (11-2) @ SAN ANGELO STAMPEDE EXPRESS (5-8), 7:05 PM In what could be a 2nd Round Playoff Preview, the El Paso Generals travel to San Angelo to take on the Stampede Express. The Lone Star Division Champion Generals have certainly taken this league by storm in their first year of existence. Coach Brents has had his team ready to play each and every week and will be a difficult opponent to any team come playoff time. Star Receiver Deangelo Woodie has over 1,000 yards and caught 20 TD passes this season. The Stampede Express solidified themselves as the third seed in the Lone Star Division with a win in Corpus Christi last weekend. In that game, receivers Bobby Chase and Tarvar Williams each caught three Sonny Cumbie touchdown passes and accumulated over 150 yards of offense. The victory sets up a first round playoff match in Abilene next week.
SATURDAY, JULY 11 - SIOUX CITY BANDITS (4-9) @ SIOUX FALLS STORM (5-8), 7:05 PM In what has always been a heated rivalry, the Bandits heads to Sioux Falls to take on the Storm. Sioux City has had a bit of a resurgence late this season by winning two of their last three games. QB Scott Jensen has shown that he has a bright future in this league and should give the Bandit coaching staff a lot hope heading into the off-season. The Rookie gunslinger has tossed for 24 TD's this season and rushed for almost 400 yards and 5 scores as well. One of the great things you can tell about watching the Storm Players is the fact that they never tone down their intensity on the field. Even though they won't be making a trip to the post season, the players are guaranteed to treat this game like a playoff contest. Look for RB Sean Treasure to have the ball in his hands often. This season he has scored 21 TD's via the ground.
SATURDAY, JULY 11 - ABILENE RUFF RIDERS (7-6) @ ODESSA ROUGHNECKS (4-9), 7:11 PM The Ruff Riders and Roughnecks close out the 2009 regular season by facing each other in Odessa. Abilene has assured themselves the second seed in the Lone Star Division and a home game in the first round against San Angelo. In last weekends victory over this same Odessa team, the Ruff Rider defense took back two interceptions for touchdowns. DB Joey Longoria also increased his league leading Interception total to 11 in this game. The Roughnecks aren't used to not being involved in post season play, and you can bet they will back next season ready to prove that they are one of the top teams. This game could go a long way in building momentum into the off-season. This week, look for QB Dennis Gile to continue to look towards his favorite target in Jimmy Conner. The Receiver leads the IFL with 1,030 yards.
SATURDAY, JULY 11 - MUSKEGON THUNFDER (1-12) @ ROCHESTER RAIDERS (8-5), 7:35 PM After a long layoff, the Thunder hit the road to finish off their season this weekend when they face off against Rochester. Muskegon hasn't played a game since their June 13th defeat at the hands of Maryland, but the rest could be just what the doctor ordered. LB Tersee Nande has been a bright spot this season for Muskegon totaling 64 tackles, four forced fumbles, two interceptions, and a forced fumble. The Raiders look like a complete team heading into the post season. They hope to use this game to correct the little things needed before their first round home playoff game against RiverCity. Leading the team is Quarterback Perry Patterson. Number twelve has thrown for 37 touchdowns in just nine games this season, and has added an additional 2 TD's on the ground.
