IFL Announces Week Sixteen Players of the Week
Published on July 6, 2023 under Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
The Indoor Football League is proud to announce the Players of the Week for week sixteen of the 2023 XV season. Green Bay Quarterback, Max Meylor, is the Offensive Player of the Week. Frisco Defensive Lineman, Charles Williams, earns Defensive Player of the Week. Special Teams Player of the Week goes to Harold Love, Defensive Lineman, for the Arizona Rattlers.
Max Meylor - OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Green Bay has had an interesting year when it comes to quarterbacks. They have the rare problem of having an abundance of talent at the most important position on the field. Ja'Rome Johnson started the year by showing the league he is one of the most difficult to defend players in the league. When Johnson went down with injury, Meylor stepped in and didn't miss a beat. In his nine weeks of play, Meylor has amassed 1,196 passing yards, 23 touchdowns and only four interceptions. This past week against Tulsa, Meylor had his best week to date. He finished the night going 26/35 for 282 yards and four passing touchdowns. He added two scores on the ground for a total of six in the game.
Charles Williams - DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Frisco mopped up Sioux Falls on Saturday. It was domination in every facet of the game, including the defense. They only allowed the Storm to score seven points in the first quarter and eight in the fourth quarter. Holding a team to 15 points in indoor football is impressive. Leading the defensive charge was veteran Defensive Lineman, Charles Williams. Williams was disruptive all night. He spend a lot of time in the backfield wreaking havoc on the Storm offense. Charles finished the night with six tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks.
Harold Love - SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Arizona hosted the Massachusetts Pirates on Saturday in what was a matchup of two of the best rosters in the league. Big plays on special teams are often about momentum. This week is a great example of that. The Pirates marched down the field on their first possession and score. Harold Love then blocked the extra point, stealing momentum from the drive. Arizona then went three and out. On Massachusetts second possession, they lined up for a field goal to go up 10-0. Harold Love once again blocked the kick. The pirates ended up recovering a fumbled return of the blocked kick but just two plays later threw an interception. Arizona went on to score and go up 7-6. Massive momentum shifts thanks to two special teams blocks early in the game by Rattlers Defensive Lineman, Harold Love.
The action continues with week 17 as five games will be played. Just like week 16, every game matters as everyone continues to fight their way to the finish line. All games can be streamed on the IFL's YouTube channel and fans can follow along with all the IFL's social media channels.
