IFL Announces Week Nineteen Players of the Week

July 20, 2022 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

The Indoor Football League is proud to announce the Players of the Week for Week 19 of the 2022 season. Quad City Quarterback, E.J. Hilliard is the Offensive Players of the Week. Massachusetts Defensive Back, Aarion Maxey-Penton, earns Defensive Player of the Week. Special Teams Player of the Week goes to Duke City Defensive End, Mason Newton.

E.J. Hilliard - OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

It took the entire regular season, but Quad City has officially clinched a berth on the 2022 playoffs. They did so with a victory over the Iowa Barnstormers in an absolute must-win game. E.J. Hilliard has put together a very impressive season and this past week was no different. His stat line was impressive. Hilliard completed 10 of 16 for 150 yards and a touchdown as well as 74 yards on the ground and three rushing touchdowns. If you watched the game you saw that, beyond his stats, Hilliard is a game-changer.

Aarion Maxey-Penton - DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Massachusetts has officially clinched the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference and are one step closer to defending their championship. The Pirates finished their regular season with their most dominant performance of the year. With stellar play on all sides of the ball, Massachusetts defeated Bay Area by a score of 60-17. On defense, Aarion Maxey-Penton shined. He finished the game with 2.5 tackles, two pass breakups and one interception that he returned 52 yards for a touchdown.

Mason Newton - SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Generally, the Special Teams Player of the Week goes to a kicker or kick returner. Not today. Duke City finished their regular season with a 39-32 upset win over the #2 playoff seed Northern Arizona Wranglers. A one-score game comes down to just few plays making the difference. Gladiators defensive end, Mason Newton, made those plays. With his team down 32-26 with eight minutes remaining in the game, Newton blocked a field goal attempt which was picked up and returned for a touchdown to tie the game. Five minutes later as NAZ lined up to take the lead with another Field Goal, Newton again blocked the kick which was recovered by Duke City. Duke City went on to score to seal the win.

Week one of the 2022 IFL Playoffs begins this weekend with two games on Friday night and one game on Saturday night and one game on Sunday. Find the matchups and details at www.GoIFL.com. Catch all of the action on the IFL YouTube Channel.
