IFL Announces Week Five Players of the Week
April 20, 2023 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
The Indoor Football League is proud to announce the Players of the Week for week five of the 2023 XV season. Norther Arizona Wide Receiver, Ryan Wisniewski is the Offensive Players of the Week. Tucson Defensive Back, Carlito Gonzales, earns Defensive Player of the Week. Special Teams Player of the Week goes to Jerron McGaw, Running Back for the Quad City Gladiators.
Ryan Wisniewski - OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Week six wasn't short on impressive offensive performances, with close to a dozen worthy of allocations. That just makes the winner even more impressive. Northern Arizona is starting to look like the defending champions. They put up the most lopsided win of the season when they defeated the San Diego Strike Force 48-9. A game like this features many impressive performers. But none stand out more than Wide Receiver, Ryan Wisniewski. Wisniewski pulled in only five receptions, but he made them count. He accounted for 125 of the team's total 183 passing yards. Of his five receptions, four were completed for touchdowns.
Carlito Gonzales - DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Bay Area came out on fire going up 16-0 early in the second quarter. That's when the Tucson Defense stepped up. The Panthers would score only 14 points through the rest of the game. Carlito Gonzales lead the way for the Sugar Skulls defense. Gonzalez was all over the field, more than tripling anyone else in total tackles with ten. Gonzales added .5 tackle for loss and a forced fumble. Thanks to this defensive performance, Tucson would come back to win 34-30.
Jerron McGaw - SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Quad City traveled to Tulsa for the Oilers inaugural home opener. This game was high scoring and action packed. Between the two teams, there were 54 points scored in the second quarter alone. In a game like this, it takes something special to stand out. Enter Jerron McGaw. With under a minute left in the first half, Jerron took a deep kickoff the length of the field for a 50-yard touchdown return. McGaw ended the night with three returns for 81 yards and a touchdown.
Week six features a full slate. Fourteen teams, seven games over three days. The indoor action begins at 7:05 p.m. CT on Friday as Sioux Falls travels to Green Bay. Other matchups of note are Arizona at Frisco, Massachusetts at Quad City and finishing with Northern Arizona at Bay Area on Sunday night.
