IFL Announces VidSwap.com Players of the Week

July 1, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

Richmond, VA: With only two more weeks until the playoffs, and only two spots left to fill in the Lone Star Division, the play on the field has intensified. This week saw a teams new Quarterback completely take over a game, a defender take an interception to the house, and a kicker prove that his team will not just roll over at the end of the season. The three players selected this week for honors all helped their teams add another notch in the win column. Fans can visit GoIFL.com to see the video highlights that made these young men the VidSwap.com Players of the Week.

WEEK SIXTEEN OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -QB DIXIE WOOTEN/WICHITA WILD

A change of scenery may have been just what the doctor ordered. Wooten, who was a Player of the Year candidate as a member of RiverCity earlier this year, was released by the Rage and immediately picked up by Wichita a few weeks ago. In his first game wearing the orange and black he led the Wild to their best offensive performance of the year and solidified the franchise its first ever playoff game. The Wild Quarterback ran the ball four times for 28 yards and was 14-20 for 171 yards and seven touchdowns. Wichita was also 7 for 7 in their redzone opportunities. The offense is playing their best football of the season, and if the Wild can make a deep playoff run, the pick up of Wooten make go down as the best free agent pick up of the year.

WEEK SIXTEEN DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK -DB CHRIS JOHNSON/ ROCHESTER RAIDERS

Rochester is at the top of almost every defensive category for a reason. Their D-Line regularly gets to the Quarterback, their Linebackers are always in position to make the tackle, and their defensive backs blanket opposing receivers to the point of forcing turnovers. Last weekend against the Atlantic Division Champion Maryland Maniacs, Chris Johnson was the latest Raider to dominate of the defensive end of the ball. The defensive back totaled five solo tackles, added 5 assists, broke up a pass, and returned an interception 26 yards for a score. Rest assured, this defense is ready for any challenger come playoff time.

WEEK SIXTEEN SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK-K ZEKE AREVALO/ODESSA ROUGHNECKS

The Roughnecks may be out of this year's playoff contention, but their players are certainly still playing for pride. Odessa shocked second seeded Abilene last weekend 55-44, and showed that when they put it all together they can play with anyone. Zeke Arevalo played a major role in the victory contributing 11 points. The Roughneck kicker was 2-2 on field goal attempts of 26 and 27 yards and hit on 5 of his 7 extra point attempts.

Week 17 kicks off on Thursday, July 2, as Alaska heads to Wichita in the first ever BATTLE OF THE WILDS. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 PM. Follow all the action at www.goifl.com and on the B2 broadcasts www.b2livetv.com of each game all season long.
