IFL Announces 2010 Playoff Format

January 21, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release


Richmond, VA: The Indoor Football League is proud to announce the 2010 IFL Playoff format. Last week at the IFL's Pre-Season Meetings in San Antonio, TX, all 25 members voted unanimously to increase the number of playoff teams from 12, in 2009, to 16 for the 2010 season.

2010 Playoff Format

Number of Teams: 16

Number of Rounds: 4

Qualifiers: Top team in each of the 6 Divisions plus 5 Wild Cards in each Conference

Week 1: First Round

Teams ranked 1-4 will host will host games versus teams ranked 5-8 in each conference based on geographic proximity

Week 2: Conference Semi-Finals

Teams will be re-ranked 1-4 based on regular season record in each conference

1st seed will host 4th Seed in each Conference

2nd seed will host 3rd Seed in each Conference

Week 3: Conference Finals

Remaining two teams play at the higher advancing seeds venue

Winners will be crowned Conference Champions

Week 4: League Championship

Higher Conference Champion hosts Lower Seeded Conference Champion

Winner will be crowned United Bowl Champion

"The 2010 playoff format is just one of the many great concepts to come out of the pre-season meetings in San A ntonio," stated Brooks York, IFL Director of Football Operations. "The league is very eager to kickoff the 2010 season next month."

The Indoor Football League was created in 2008 from a merger between the Intense Football League and United Indoor Football Association. It consists of 25 teams located across the United States from Alaska to Washington D.C. The 2010 Season is set to kickoff February 26th and will culminate in July for the United Bowl.
