Huntsville, AL- One of the all-time rivals of the Tennessee Valley Vipers is now a member of the team. Viper head coach, Kevin Guy, announced today that Xavier (X-Man) Patterson was picked up in a trade with the Wichita Stealth.

Patterson was a member of the Quad City Steamwheelers in 2000 and 2001. He was selected Ironman of the Year in 2000 and was a first team all-af2 selection. He was a second team all-af2 selection in 2001. He played in 30 games for the Steamwheelers and rushed for 34 yards on 15 attempts and scored seven touchdowns, caught 133 passes for 1,618 yards and 41 touchdowns, returned 10 missed field goals for 155 yards and returned 31 kickoffs for 687 yards and two touchdowns. He recorded 72.5 tackles, nine interceptions, one fumble recovery and 19 pass break ups. He returned one interception and one fumble for touchdowns.

Last season at Wichita, he played in 12 games and rushed for 29 yards on 12 attempts and five touchdowns, caught 55 passes for 822 yards and 15 touchdowns, returned 12 missed field goals for 178 yards and 21 kickoffs for 387 yards. He recorded 26.5 tackles, two interceptions, one fumble recovery and six pass break ups.

In four career games against the Vipers, he has rushed for six yards on two carries and scored one touchdown, caught 14 passes for 228 yards and nine touchdowns, returned one kickoff 50 yards for a touchdown and intercepted one pass. He has owned the Von Braun Center catching eight passes for 105 yards and five touchdowns and intercepting a pass in only two games.

He played two years for the New Jersey Red Dogs in 1997 and 1998. In 10 games and caught nine passes for 111 yards and one touchdown and recorded 8.5 tackles, two pass break ups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

He had a standout career at Fort Hays State in 1995 and 1996 after transferring from Scottsdale Community College. In two years at Fort Hays he played in 22 games and rushed for 88 yards on 13 carries, caught 119 passes for 2,035 yards and 16 touchdowns, returned five kickoffs for 128 yards and returned 23 punts for 266 yards.

The Vipers were also assigned a pair of players from the University of Houston, quarterback, Jason McKinley and defensive back, Kenny Hill. McKinley started 44 games at Houston from 1997-2000 and completed 786-of-1,388 passes for 8,694 yards and 46 touchdowns. He was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Year in 1997 and was a member of the All-Freshman Team. He holds the NCAA record for most consecutive starts by a quarterback with 42.

He currently ranks first on the Cougar list for pass completions with 786, ahead of Andre Ware and David Klingler. He is also first in pass attempts (1,388), second in passing yards (8,694), third in touchdown passes (46), second in total offense (8,277), first in plays (1,533) and fourth in touchdowns responsible for (47). He played in the Blue-Gray All-Star Game and the Hula Bowl following his senior season and set the record for most completions in the Blue-Gray Game with 27.

Hill played in nine games for the Barracudas last season and recorded 53.0 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss for 10 yards, 16 pass break ups and one forced fumble.

He played defensive back at Houston in 1998 and 1999 after transferring from Blinn Junior College. In two years, he played in 19 games and recorded 168 tackles, 118 solo, nine tackles-for-loss for 28 yards, 20 pass break ups, three interceptions and one fumble recovery. He also returned 29 punts for 277 yards. He was a first-team Conference USA selection in 1999 when he led the Cougars in tackles with 140. He recorded 53 tackles, four interceptions and 13 pass break ups in two years at Blinn.
