If the Playoffs Started Today...
June 16, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL) News Release
Based on the current records of all twenty two NIFL teams, here are the top six from each conference as of June 14, 2006. Which teams are almost there, and who needs to win out, in order to secure a spot in the 2006 Playoffs. Teams in bold secured divison titles.
Atlantic Conference
1. Fayetteville Guard (11 wins) - East Division Champion
2. RiverCity Rage (10 wins, with tie-breaker over Lakeland) - North Division Champion
3. Lakeland Thunderbolts (10 wins) - South Division Champion
4. Osceola Football (7 wins) - first wild card selection
5. Cincinnati Marshals (6 wins) - second wild card selection
6. Charleston Sandsharks (5 wins, best conference win/loss percetange)*
The two remaining teams at 5 wins a piece, Montgomery and Florida*, both have a chance to get into the sixth spot, and will need to win their remaining games. A quick note, Florida and Charleston both have outstanding information that must be completed before being eligible, therefore at this time, Montgomery would drop into the sixth spot.
Pacific Conference
1. Billings Outlaws (11 wins) - North Divisoin Champion
2. Rapid City Flying (10 wins) - West Divison Champion
3. Katy Copperheads (9 wins) - South Division Champion
4. Tri-Cities Fever (8 wins) - reigning NIFL Champions
5. Beaumont Drillers (6 wins) - win the head-to-head over Wyoming
6. Wyoming Cavalry (6 wins)
The 2005 NIFL Champions will have a long road to the 2006 Championship, as they will not have a first round bye as the fourth seed.
As for the fifth and sixth seeds, it seems like a lock, as no team with lesser records can compete for a spot. Wyoming will have an important game against the Flying Aces, if they want to move up to the fifth spot, as the other remaining games for both teams should be easy wins.
