IceRays sign free agent defenseman Kyle Peto

August 1, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL) - Corpus Christi IceRays News Release

The Corpus Christi IceRays have signed free agent defenseman Kyle Peto for the 2009-2010 season, IceRays General Manager/Senior VP, Pat Dunn announced today. Peto comes to Corpus Christi via the ECHL where he spent the majority of last season with the Mississippi Sea Wolves. Peto becomes the tenth player on the IceRays roster. He also is the third defenseman signed and third newcomer to the IceRays this year. The IceRays are currently in preparation for the 2009-2010 season. Season tickets and corporate sponsorship packages are available. For more information please call the IceRays at 361.814.PUCK.

Peto, 26, enters his fourth season of professional hockey. Last season he began the season playing six games for the Florida Everblades before joining the Sea Wolves for the final 59 games of the season. Overall, Peto totaled 27 points (5g, 22a) and added 68 penalty minutes. Despite playing in just 59 games, Peto finished as the top scoring Sea Wolves defenseman - a distinction to which he's grown accustomed. In all three of his professional seasons, Peto has been either first or second on his team in blue line scoring. He was also the top scoring defenseman in his final three seasons of college hockey at Minnesota State University - Mankato.

Last season Peto played his first complete pro year in North America. As a rookie in 2006-2007 he split time between the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL and a pro team in Finland. The following year he played exclusively for the Basingstoke Bison in England. The IceRays will become the sixth team that the 6'0", 190 lbs. Lethbridge, Ontario native will play for.

Hughes said he was excited about the signing of Peto, and that his versatility as a defenseman is what made him attractive as an asset.

"We are excited for Kyle to come to Corpus Christi. Kyle will be a strong addition to our hockey team this year. He is a very strong skater and we are looking for him to be a go-to guy and work the power play" said coach Hughes.

Corpus Christi IceRays hockey returns for a brand new season in October. Don't miss a second of the fast-paced, hard-hitting action of IceRays hockey as they cool off the Coastal Bend. Season tickets and corporate sponsorship packages are available. For more information please call the IceRays at 361.814.PUCK or visit them online at www.ccrayz.com.
