IceRays Donated over $100,000 in 2008-09
The Corpus Christi IceRays hockey team is currently in preparation for the 2009-2010 season, but in the past year, the IceRays solidified their relationship with the South Texas community. In their first season under new ownership, the IceRays raised more than $107,000 for local and national charitable causes and organizations. The IceRays mirrored their on-ice success this season with a successful campaign off the ice which focused on a increased relationship with their community. The IceRays will return to the ice in October for their 12th professional season in South Texas.
In the 2008-2009 season, the IceRays saw many charitable events at their games. The IceRays game schedule was highlighted by events such as Pack the House for Charity Night and Pink in the Rink Night. In Pink in the Rink Night, the IceRays wore commemorative pink jerseys and skated on pink ice. They raised better than $35,000 for the American Cancer Society to benefit breast cancer research on that night alone. The IceRays also donated nearly $30,000 in cash in the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show. Additionally, the IceRays donated thousands of game tickets during the season through the Berry Bunch foundation, Coastal Cardiology Cardiac Kids and Cool School Day Game. All of this was done in conjunction with numerous public appearances at schools, hospitals, local businesses, camps and hockey clinics made by IceRays players and staff members during the season.
"When the IceRays were brought back for last season, we made two commitments to being a successful organization," said Senior VP/General Manager Pat Dunn. "Those were to focus on building a team that could contend for a championship, and to have a team that would give back to the community and be an organization that this city could be proud of. I think in our first year back we did a great job of building a bright future in both arenas."
The IceRays visible impact in the community through public appearances and charitable donations was also joined with the team's thrilling, dramatic entrance into the post-season in the final game of the season. The playoff appearance was just the second for the IceRays since 2001, and saw Corpus Christi win their only home playoff game.
The IceRays are currently in preparation for the 2009-2010 season, and will begin play in October. The IceRays are currently offering season tickets and sponsorship packages for the upcoming season. For more information, please call the IceRays at 361.814.PUCK.
