October 6, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill. - The Rockford IceHogs play their first of two preseason games as they host the Chicago Wolves in an exhibition match today at the BMO Harris Bank Center at 7 p.m. The IceHogs, who are now in their tenth season as the proud AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks, wrap up their preseason slate tomorrow in Milwaukee.
Admission to the game is free to the public, and seating will be first-come, first-serve. Fans unable to attend will be able to follow the game on Twitter, @goicehogs, and Facebook.com/RockfordIceHogs, as well as on IceHogs.com.
This weekend's preseason games conclude a week of practice for the IceHogs, whose training camp opened on Sunday. Rockford will travel to Milwaukee on Friday for a 7 p.m. matchup against the Admirals at the Kern Center on campus of the Milwaukee School of Engineering. The IceHogs will hold practices next week before opening the regular season on the road against the Cleveland Monsters on Friday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m.
The IceHogs and the Wolves will play 12 Illinois Lottery Cup games this season. The IceHogs won the series last year going 7-2-3 against the Wolves to claim their third Illinois Lottery Cup Series win. The first eight games of the series were won by the home team until the IceHogs broke that trend with a 4-2 win on the road on Feb. 2. Ryan Haggerty led the IceHogs in goals scored in the series against the Wolves with five and Vinnie Hinostroza led the team in total points in the series with eight points - three goals and five assists.
The IceHogs finished the season last year with an overall record of 40-22-10-4, which was good enough to net them their second-straight Calder Cup Playoff appearance. The Wolves finished the season with an overall record of 33-35-5-3 keeping them out of the playoffs for the first time since the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs.
Regular Season Home Opener: Saturday, Oct. 22, against the Milwaukee Admirals at 7 p.m. The first 5,000 fans will receive a 2017 calendar courtesy of BMO Harris Bank. To get tickets, click here.
