March 9, 2010 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Port Huron Icehawks News Release
PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks will play three consecutive games against teams in the IHL playoff picture this week as they host the Bloomington Prairie Thunder Friday, then travel to take on the Fort Wayne Komets Saturday and the Muskegon Lumberjacks Sunday.
The Icehawks will play their third consecutive home game Friday when the Prairie Thunder come to town. The Icehawks are 5-1-0-0 against the Prairie Thunder this season, but has not hosted Bloomington since November 7th. This will be the first of four March meetings between the teams.
Road games at Fort Wayne Saturday and Muskegon Sunday will follow as the Icehawks are in the middle of a stretch of six straight games against the teams currently positioned to make the Turner Cup Playoffs. The Icehawks beat the Komets 4-1 in their last trip to Fort Wayne on February 19th, but have not beaten the Lumberjacks in Muskegon since December 13.
The Icehawks won all three games last week as the last full month of the IHL regular season got underway. With a road win at Flint Wednesday and two victories over first-place Muskegon at home Friday and Saturday, the Icehawks remain in second place in the standings, seven points behind Muskegon and three points ahead of Fort Wayne.
For their seven-point efforts last week Icehawks forwards Nick Lindberg and Mickael Bedard took home IHL weekly awards. Nick Lindberg was named Player of the Week for the second time this season, and Mickael Bedard won his seventh IHL award when he was named Rookie of the Week.
Offensive Explosion: Port Huron scored 16 goals in their three wins this week, their best offensive output in any week this season. Their previous best was 14 goals, a feat they have accomplished twice this season. The Icehawks are second in the IHL in goals scored this season at 196.
Starting Streaks: Port Huron's successful offensive week has started many point streaks for Icehawks skaters. Derek Patrosso, Nick Lindberg and Brandon Naurato are all riding five-game point streaks, and Brandon Kaleniecki has a goal four straight games. Eight Icehawks scored at least one point in each of this week's three games.
Instant Impact: Right wing Matt Auffrey and defenseman Cody Hamilton are the newest Icehakws, as they were both acquired in a trade with Dayton last Tuesday. Auffrey and Hamilton have fit in well thus far as each of the newcomers scored three points in their first three games with the team last week.
Power(ful) Play: The Icehawks went 7-15 on the power play this week to hold their first-place spot in power play percentage this season. Port Huron has the only power play unit to score on more than 20% of their man-advantage opportunities this season. Ticket Packages: The Icehawks are offering two great discount packages for home games during the 2009-10 season. Family Four Packs are available now for all home games, while Deuces Wild Packages are on sale for all weekday games.
Family Four Packs include four tickets, four hot dogs, and four small fountain drinks for just $44. For just $22, the Deuces Wild Package includes two tickets in the Attack Zone and two beers or soft drinks. The Deuces Wild Package must be purchased at the Icehawks office during normal business hours, while the Family Four Pack is available in advance or at the gate.
