
Icehawks Skate Past Gems, 4-1

PORT HURON, MI - Derek Patrosso scored a pair of goals on Saturday to lead the Port Huron Icehawks to a 4-1 win over the Dayton Gems at McMorran Arena. With the victory, the second place Icehawks improve to 10-4-0-0 on the season and 3-0-0-0 against the Gems.
The Icehawks got a big boost from goalie Adam Russo who allowed just one goal against for the second consecutive night. Russo also helped the Icehawks to a 3-1 win over the Quad City Mallards on Friday.
The Icehawks came out strong from the first puck drop, outshooting the Gems 11-3 in the first period and notching two goals in the first 11 minutes of play. Mike Kinnie netted his league leading 13th goal of the season at 5:44 on assists from Nick Lindberg and Ian Turner. Patrosso made it a two goal game just over four minutes later when he fired the puck past goalie Ryan Mior. Kris Vernarsky and Daniel Tetrault assisted.
The Icehawks built on that momentum in the second period and extended their lead to 3-0 with a goal from defenseman Mike Gershon, his first as a professional, at 9:01. The goal was unassisted. As the period came to a close, Dayton's Dan Lapointe scored to put his team on the board. He was assisted by John Snowden and A.J. MacLean. Shots were tied 11-11 in the period.
In the third period, Patrosso struck again to boost the Icehawks lead to 4-1. The goal came on the power play at 7:43. Cory Stillman and Mickael Bedard were credited with the assists. The Icehawks outshot the Gems 9-8 in the period and 33-23 overall.
Russo made 22 saves for the win. Dayton goalie Mior stopped 29 of 33 shots he faced.
Just four penalties were called in the game, leaving each team with two power play opportunities. The Icehawks were 1-2 with the man advantage and the Gems were 0-2.

The Icehawks are idle until Wednesday when they kick off a six game road trip with a stop in Quad City. They will return to McMorran Arena on December 11 to battle the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
