Icehawks Sign Forward Prior To Weekend's Games

PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks announced that they have signed rookie forward Joel Gasper as they head into three games this weekend. He will be with the team tonight when they travel to Flint to kick off a home-and-home series with the Generals.

Gasper (6-2, 205 lbs) recently completed his college career after four seasons with Robert Morris University (Pittsburgh, PA) in the NCAA. Last season he turned in seven assists with Robert Morris, before he joined the ECHL Johnstown Chiefs at the tail end of their season. He had two assists in nine regular season games with Johnstown and also skated in three playoff games with the team. In the 2006-07 season with Robert Morris, he turned in 13 points (4g, 9a) in 32 games.

Gasper received a number of honors in his senior year. He was named to the ESPN The Magazine District II At-Large Academic All-America Team for his academic and athletic achievements. He also earned a number of honors at Robert Morris, including a Presidential Scholar Award, Student-Athlete of the Year honors and was named Most Inspirational Player by the men's hockey program.

The 25-year old native of Crookston, MN played with Icehawks defenseman Rob Cowan at Robert Morris.

The roster now stands at 20 players, with 11 forwards, seven defenseman and two goalies. Six players have veteran status and eight qualify as rookies in the IHL.

The Icehawks return to action this weekend with three consecutive games, including a home-and-home series with the Flint Generals Thursday and Friday and a visit from the Muskegon Lumberjacks on Saturday.

When the Icehawks travel to Flint tonight, both teams will be looking for their first win of the season after dropping their first two contests.
