Icehawks Player/Assistant Coach Headed to Canisius College

PORT HURON, MI - After three years as player/assistant coach under Head Coach Stan Drulia, Port Huron Icehawks defenseman B.J. Adams has accepted a position at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. Adams will act as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Division I hockey program.

Adams, 33, served as player/assistant coach for the last two seasons with the Icehawks and also for one season with the Port Huron Flags. His duties included recruiting, scouting and on-ice instruction.

"Over my three years here, I have had great experiences and met a lot of great people," Adams said. "I am leaving a great organization, but I am also going to a great college program that will help me further my coaching career."

He added, "I would like to thank the ownership for what they have done and the fans for their constant support. I would also like to thank Stan Drulia, who has been great to me over the years. I have learned a lot from him."

A native of Scarborough, Ontario, Adams played 10 seasons of professional hockey, with stops in the ECHL, CHL, UHL and IHL. He also played four years at Bowling Green State University (1996-2000) where he earned a degree in education and was named team MVP in his senior year.

"B.J. has been a valuable member of the Icehawks organization and a big part of our success over the last several seasons," Drulia said. "He is a true professional who is passionate about the sport and gives his all every day. We wish him the best as he continues his coaching career."

The Icehawks open the 2009-10 season at home on Saturday, October 17 versus the Fort Wayne Komets. Season tickets are on sale now.
