Icehawks earn 4-1 win versus PrairieThunder

BLOOMINGTON, IL - The Port Huron Icehawks dominated on special teams to earn a 4-1 win versus the Bloomington PrairieThunder at U.S. Cellular Coliseum on Saturday night. Port Huron scored three times on six power plays, while holding the PrairieThunder without a goal on their six man advantages.

The Icehawks led by one at the start of the final period and made it a 3-1 game when Derek Patrosso tipped in a Mike Gershon point shot at 3:28 for the Icehawks third power play goal of the game. Jamie Lovell had the other assist on the goal.

Port Huron's penalty killers then stopped three straight PrairieThunder power plays, with Pete Rouleau scoring an unassisted goal into an empty net at 17:40, just seconds after a minor to Daniel Tetrault had expired. Bloomington outshot the Icehawks 15-9 in the period and 38-27 for the game.

Jason Selleke gave Port Huron a 2-1 lead at 6:03 of the second period with a power play goal. Selleke tipped in a pass from Tab Lardner at the top of the crease. Nick Lindberg also assisted. Shots favored Bloomington 12-10 in the period.

The teams traded goals 1:59 apart in the opening period as Port Huron's Daniel Tetrault scored on a power play at 4:54 with a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle. Lardner and Adam Russo had assists on the goal. Bloomington's Bill Bagron tied the game with a wrist shot from the right circle at 6:53 set up by Jon Booras and Jason Lepine. The PrairieThunder outshot the Icehawks 11-8 in the first period.

Icehawks goalie Russo made 27 saves, while Andrew Martin turned away 23 shots for Bloomington.

The first place Icehawks improve to 24-8-0-2 and take a three point lead over the second place Muskegon Lumberjacks, who lost tonight in Fort Wayne. The fifth place PrairieThunder fall to 14-13-2-3.

The Icehawks travel to Quad City on Sunday to wrap up a five game road trip, before returning home next Friday to face the Dayton Gems.
