Niagara IceDogs News Release

As I am sure some of you are aware our own Dougie Hamilton has been selected to be a part of the Team Canada Summer Under-18 team that will participate in the 2010 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament in the Czech Republic and Slovakia from August 9th-14th.

Hamilton is one of 22 players on the team and among seven defencemen to make the roster. He is also among 13 OHL players to make the team, which will be coached by Belleville Bulls head coach George Burnett.

This will mark the second time Dougie will have competed in an international tournament, having also been a part of the silver medal winning Team Ontario at the 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge this past January.

Canada has won the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka in five of the past six years, and will play in Group B with Slovakia, Sweden and Switzerland, a group that will be based out of Piestany, Slovakia. Group A, which consists of the Czech Republic, Finland, Russia and the United States, will play out of Breclav, Czech Republic.

Canada will face the Czech Republic in an exhibition game in Breclav on Saturday, August 7 before opening the tournament against Sweden on Monday, August 9. The top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals on Friday, August 13, with the gold medal game scheduled for Saturday, August 14.

While the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament is occurring in Europe and the season is coming up quickly and training camp is less than a month away, there is an event coming up soon right her in Niagara for those of you who can't wait to get back to the rink.

On Friday, August 13th , St. Catharines MP Rick Dykstra will be hosting the First Annual "Hockey Night in St. Catharines" Charity Hockey Game between past and present NHL Players vs. Conservative Members of Parliament and Community Members, including players from the Niagara IceDogs, to be held at the Gatorade Garden City Complex. Proceeds from the game will be going to the United Way of St. Catharines and District.

There are two levels of tickets available: for $100, you'll get a V.I.P. ticket, which will get you a prime seat at the game, entry to a catered post-game reception with the players and an official game jersey! General admission tickets are also available for $10!

V.I.P. packages are available at Rick Dykstra's Community Office at 61 Geneva St. or by calling 905-934-6767. General admission tickets are available at the IceDogs office located at 35 Queen Street, downtown St. Catharines.
