IceDiggers take on Traverse City Saturday

Alpena MI: The Alpena IceDiggers return to Northern Lights Arena on Saturday Feb 2nd at 7:00PM to take on the Traverse City North Stars.

The IceDiggers are coming off a two game sweep of the Marquette Rangers last weekend. On Friday Alpena traveled to Marquette and came away with a 4-3 shoot out win. Isaac Viau (Cheboygan MI) led the way with 2 goals and 2 assists. Jimmy McCusker (Novi MI) chipped in 1 goal and 1 assist. Nick Graves (Hewitt WI)made 23 saves to earn the win in net for Alpena.

On Saturday it was all Alpena, the IceDiggers dumped Marquette 4-0 in front of the home crowd. Erik Peterson (Alpena MI) scored 2 power play goals and rookie JC Gulch (Temperance MI) added two assists. Graves picked up his 2nd shutout of the season making 25 saves.

Traverse City is last in the North division with a record of 12-18-10 good for 34 points. Alpena took over second place in the North with their two wins last weekend and have a record of 25-13-3 and have a total of 53 points.

"As a team we know every night is going to be a battle, every team in this division is capable of beating anyone on any giving night." said head coach Kenny Miller "We have to continue to get better each and every day."

Ticket prices are $10.00 for adults, $6.00 for students with student ID, $8.00 for seniors and $5.00 12-under.

On Friday Alpena will travel to Traverse City to open the two game home and home series. Face for Friday is at 7:05PM and fans can watch the game on the B2 network for only $6.00 at www.icediggers.com

NOTES: ALL STARS: Veteran forwards Peterson, McCusker and Viau were named to the NAHL North division team that will compete in the NAHL top prospects tournament in Ann Arbor next month.

STAYING HOT: The IceDiggers rolled through December with a record of 6-1-1 followed that month up with a record of 8-1-1 in January.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: Netminder Nick Graves earned honorable mention this week for the North division player of the week honors. Graves has a record of 11-0-2 with 2 shutouts since coming to Alpena.

MAN UP: Alpena sits 2nd overall with a 20.08% power play. The IceDiggers have scored 50 goals with the man advantage.

+/-: Defensemen Nick Grasso (Smithtown NY) leads the IceDiggers in +/- with a +12 rating. Grasso has suited up for all 16 games since being added as a free agent.

TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE: Adrian College freshman Justin Stadler (Livonia MI) scored the first home goal at Northern Lights Arena for the Alpena IceDiggers back on Friday October 14, 2005. Zach Barron (St. Louis MO) current forward at U Mass Boston scored the game winner 1:17 into Overtime to seal the teams first home win. Drew Pierson (West Point) and Jeff Miller (St. Mary's) picked up assists on the winner.
