IceDiggers outlast Blizzard 7-4 in second game of showcase

Blaine MN: After a quiet night on the power play versus North Iowa the IceDiggers converted on 5 goals tonight with the man advantage as they jumped out to a big lead early scoring the first 5 goals of the game against the Alexandria Blizzard this evening at the NAHL Showcase, with 2 coming in the opening period on the power play and one at even strength. The two teams each scored 2 goals a piece in both the middle frame and the 3rd period.

The IceDiggers veteran players were big in the win once again scoring all 7 goals. Captain Nolan Craner (Plainwell MI) tallied 1 goal and added 3 assists while linemates Drew Pierson (Pleasant Prairie WI) and Todd Rudasill (Powell OH) each chipped in 2 goals while Rudasill also added an assist. Assistant Captain Ben Kitzmiller (Lambertville MI) scored 2 goals and added an assist while rookie backliner Chad Billins (Marysville MI) added 3 assists. The 3 assists for Billins were his first points in Junior "A" hockey. Erik Peterson (Alpena MI) and Austin Seiple (Maumee OH) each had 1 assist.

For the second straight night Shawn Hunwick (Sterling Hts. MI) played goal and earned the win between the pipes making 28 saves in the victory. Hunwick also added an assist on the Craner goal in the 2nd period.

The IceDiggers who went 0 for 12 on the power play in the opener were 5 for 12 tonight making the teams percentage with the man advantage 20.83% in 2 games.

With two games under their belt things will get much tougher now for Alpena as tomorrow they take on the three time Champs the Texas Tornado who are currently 0 - 2 at the showcase after dropping tonight's games against the U-18 team 11-1.
