Alpena IceDiggers News Release


Alpena MI: The Alpena IceDiggers return to Northern Lights Arena on Friday Jan. 4th versus the Marquette Rangers and again on Sunday Jan. 6th to take on the Traverse City North Stars.

Friday face is set for 7:00PM. On Sunday the puck will drop at 5:00PM.

"These are two real big games for us, we need to make sure we put a full sixty minutes together both nights." said GM/head coach Kenny Miller

Marquette makes their 4th appearance at NLA, while Traverse City comes to town for the 4th time as well. The Rangers (19-10-2 40 pts.) lead the IceDiggers by four points in the North division standings. Traverse City (11-14-6 28 pts.) comes into the contest trailing Alpena by eight points in the North.

Alpena (17-12-2 36 pts.) is riding a six game unbeaten streak in regulation play.

NEWS & NOTES:

RED HOT: Alpena is 7-2-1 in their last ten games, only North division leader St. Louis (8-1-1) has been better than Alpena in the NAHL.

MAN UP: Erik Peterson is tied for the lead in NAHL in Power Play assists with 16. The 3rd year forward is tied for 9th overall in scoring with 36 points.

HOT MONTH OF DECEMBER: The IceDiggers went 6-1-1 in the month of December. Alpena's penalty kill in the month went a total of 43 of 48 allowing 5 PP goals for a percentage of 96%.

POWER PLAY: Alpena is ranked third in the NAHL with the man advantage with a 19.50%

BETWEEN THE PIPES: Nick Graves is 4-0-1 since being acquired from Southern Minnesota, Graves has a 1.48 GAA and a .926 save percentage since coming to Michigan. Nate Pellegrino is 11-6-1 with a 2.92 GAA. Graves and Pellegrino are ranked 8th and 9th in the NAHL goaltender department.

SHOOT OUT: It took ten rounds but Jerrod Hartman scored his first ever junior "A" game winning goal on New Years Eve to seal a 3-2 win over Traverse City. It was Hartman's first shootout attempt.

BACK ON THE BLUE LINE: Veteran defensemen Evan West is 11th in defensive scoring in the NAHL with 4 goals, 12 assists for 16 points.

IN THE BOX: The IceDiggers are the second least penalized team in the NAHL with 583 minutes in 31 games. Left wing Jon Puskar leads the team with 45 minutes.

GAMERS: Six players have suited up for all 31 games so far this season. Puskar, West, Jimmy McCusker, Tyler Pilmore, Andy Yarber and Tim Olson.
