NAHL North American Hockey League

IceDiggers head to showcase with momentum

October 17, 2005 - North American Hockey League (NAHL) News Release

Fresh off a pair of home wins, this week the Alpena IceDiggers will get a chance to see how they compare to the rest of the North American Hockey League as they take part in the 2005 Showcase at the Super Rinks in Blaine, MN.

The Showcase features all 20 NAHL teams, playing inter-division games before approximately 200 college and professional scouts. While the four games played at the Showcase count in the standings, it is also a great opportunity for IceDigger players to be noticed by a Division I school.

While playing in front of the scouts, the IceDiggers will also have a chance to see how they match up against teams they typically don't see. The schedule has been designed with an eye toward creating interesting matchups, having teams face off who have not played in recent Showcases or who will not face each other during the regular season. For the IceDiggers, that means three contests against teams from the West Division and one from the Central.

Alpena opens the Showcase with a game against the North Iowa Outlaws. While the Outlaws' record may be 4-7-0 they are competitive in their first NAHL season. North Iowa has played eight games, five of which have been one-goal games, two have been two goal margins. That is followed by a game against the Wasilla Spirit. The competition continues against the Billings Bulls, before wrapping up against the Helena Big Horns.

"This is a chance to for us to show the league how our program continues to grow," said Head Coach and General Manager Kenny Miller, "Our guys are looking forward to the challenge these four games bring."
