IceDiggers continue road swing

Alpena IceDiggers News Release


Alpena MI: The Alpena IceDiggers (16-5-1) of the North American Hockey League will continue their 10 game road swing when they travel to Traverse City on Wednesday to take on the Traverse City North Stars (7-13-3) before heading to Ann Arbor to take on Team USA U-17 (8-10-1) on Friday and Saturday night. The three games start at 7:00PM. On Thursday the IceDiggers will give thanks and most of the team will be able to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with they're families before playing in Ann Arbor Friday.

Alpena's record is 3-0 during the road trip thus far with wins coming in Traverse City on Nov. 11. 3-2 Shootout, and last weekend in Marquette 5-3 on Friday and 4-3 in OT on Saturday.

Alpena currently sits atop the North Division with 33 points while second place Mahoning Valley is 2 points behind the IceDiggers with 31 points. Alpena has a game in hand on the Phantoms.

The Marquette Rangers hold the 3rd place spot with 19 points while Team USA and Traverse City is 2 points back of Marquette with 17 points.

Alpena head coach Kenny Miller knows it is a battle each time his players put on that IceDiggers sweater. "In this division you have be ready every game, every team is capable of beating each other on any given night, so it is important for us to come ready to play each and every night."

Mike Jarboe (Grosse Point Park MI) and Shawn Hunwick (Sterling Hts. MI) split the action this past weekend in Marquette each earning a very important win. Jarboe made 28 saves on 31 shots while Hunwick stopped 25 of the 28 shots he faced.

Justin Stadler (Livonia MI) led the IceDiggers in scoring this past weekend with 2 goals and 3 assists in 2 games, while Chris Hendrickson (Hancock MI) added 2 goals and 1 assist his 2 goals came in the win Saturday one of them coming in overtime to give the IceDiggers the win. Center Kerry Bence (St. Clair MI) played well in the 2 games adding 2 goals.

The IceDiggers will play 4 more road games after this weekend before a Wednesday December 13th tilt versus the North Stars face off for that game is set for 7:00PM for ticket information please contact GM/VP Bob Krafft at the IceDiggers office at (989) 356-9812.
