Wildcats Beat Tornado

November 20, 2006 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

The Wildcats had only one game this weekend and traveled to Frisco on Friday night to take on their rival the Texas Tornado, defeating them 3-2 in overtime. It was definitely a big win for the Cats and moved them up to fourth place in the NAHL South Division, only five points behind Texas.

The Wildcats came out strong Friday night, and were on top of their game, capitalizing on three of their fifteen shots. Only 4:32 into the game the Cats would get on the board first when Michael Hrtus and Eddie Effinger set up Luke Salazar who slid the puck past the Tornado goalie to give them a 1-0 lead early in the game. The Tornado were able to answer back before the period was over and the game would be tied 1-1 going into the first intermission. The lone goal of the second frame was scored by the Cats at the 9:32 mark. Zach Josepher was able to get the puck to Skylur Jameson who put it in the back of the net to give the Cats the 2-1 lead after forty minutes of play. The third stanza was all defense for the Wildcats as the Tornado took fifteen shots to the Cats one; Cal Heeter was on top of his game saving fourteen of the fifteen shots. Unfortunately, the Tornado were able to slide one past Heeter late in the third period to tie the game 2-2. Then, only 1:32 into overtime, Eddie Effinger would score the game winning goal off an assist from Michael Hrtus and Luke Salazar to give the Wildcats the 3-2 victory.
