St. John's, NL (September 30, 2015) - The St. John's IceCaps announced today NHL alumni from the IceCaps and Montreal Canadiens organizations will help make a dream come true for an 18-year-old cancer survivor from Corner Brook.
Former Western Kings 'AAA' midget hockey player Scott Delaney was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 14 but has been in remission since October, 2013. The Memorial University student's life-long dream is to play against NHL players and thanks to the IceCaps and The Children's Wish Foundation that dream will be realized 3 p.m. Friday, October 2nd at the Corner Brook Civic Centre. The game is open to the public.
"Scott's Team", which features alumni of the Western Kings program, will take to the ice versus a roster of NHL alumni from the IceCaps/Canadiens, including Sylvain Lefebvre, Donald Dufresne, Jason King, Nick Carriere, Vincent Riendeau, Marco Marciano, Martin Lapointe, Rob Ramage, A.J. MacLean, and Gord Dineen.
"The IceCaps are honoured to help Scott, a courageous young Newfoundlander and Labradorian, fulfil his dream of playing hockey against NHL players," said IceCaps President and CEO Danny Williams. "How many young kids have spent Saturday night in front of the TV watching Hockey Night in Canada, dreaming of playing in the big leagues? Now, thanks to the extraordinary work of The Children's Wish Foundation, Scott's dream will become a reality. The IceCaps are committed to giving back to the community throughout the province, and we are thrilled to partner with the Wish Foundation as "Scott's Team" hits the ice."
