Indiana Ice News Release
It looks as though two separate teams made the trip out West.
Less than 24 hours after surrendering three first-period goals to the Waterloo Black Hawks, Scott Conway piled on the offense as the Indiana Ice ran roughshod over the Lincoln Stars at the Lincoln Ice Box, 6-1.
Conway finished the night with a career-high four points (3G, A) and his first hat trick while Matt Roy added a pair of assists in the fray. Hayden continued his string of stellar performances in net with his eighth consecutive win with the Ice, stopping 28 of 29 shots on net.
Indy was off to the races late in the first period when a wrister from the high slot deflected off defenseman Vince Pedrie near the crease and sailed into the back of the net on the two-man advantage.
Conway's first goal of the night would be all the necessary scoring after a Lincoln penalty gave Indy their fourth power play opportunity in the opening frame. The Penn State commit wheeled the puck into the net from the faceoff circle with Timothy Shoup and Roy collaborating on the tally.
A defensive lapse in their own zone cost the Stars the lone goal of the seoncd period as Conway added number two on the night after picking off a pass within inches of Lincoln netminder Michael Bitzer.
The third period was once again all about Indy as a strong presence in front of the net gave the Ice the advantage as Conway's hat trick tally bounced off a Roy shot into the twine just three minutes into the stanza.
Patrick Newell would net an empty net, shorthanded marker while Brian Pinho extended his goal streak to four games with a tally in the closing 90 seconds of the match.
With the win, Indy extends their Eastern Conference lead to 12 points (73 points) and within four points of USHL-leading Waterloo and the first guaranteed playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Ice will be back in action Saturday at Lincoln before returning to Pan Am Pavilion on Saturday, March 22 against the Youngstown Phantoms.
