Ice win 5-2

April 5, 2014 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Indiana Ice News Release

The Indiana Ice travelled up to the Edge Ice Arena on Saturday knowing exactly what was at stake - the coveted Anderson Cup.

Indy needed a win and a regulation loss from the Waterloo Black Hawks to capture the trophy for the overall regular season points championship. They held up their end of the bargain with Saturday's 5-2 victory over the Chicago Steel, but Waterloo's 3-2 shootout win sealed the cup for the Western Conference Champions.

The night was not lost by any means as the team that finished dead last in the USHL last season completed a miraculous feat in going from last place to coming only two points short of topping the rest of the league in just the short span of a year.

Five different Icemen potted goals in the regular-season finale, including Scott Conway's sixth goal in his past three games. Austin Kosack (2A) and Brian Pinho (G, A) finished the night with multiple points while the win boosted Jason Pawloski to 27 wins on the season.

First and second period goals by Matt Roy and Patrick Newell gave Indy a 2-0 edge going into the third period, but a quick strike by Chicago just two minutes into the stanza gave the game a new sense of urgency.

Indy immediately swung into action to reestablish the two-goal lead as Pinho's mid-slot writer on the very next shift proved to be the game-winner just three minutes into the final frame.

Conway and Tyler Andrew added insurance goals on the contest to finalize the scoresheet for the Ice. Indy's offense pummelled Chicago netminder Chris Nell with a staggering 41 shots in the fray.

All spots for the 2013-2014 USHL Clark Cup Playoffs have been punched as the Green Bay Gamblers locked up the Eastern Conference's fourth seed with their 4-3 victory over the Muskegon Lumberjacks.

The Eastern Conference Champion Indiana Ice will face off with Green Bay in round one of the Clark Cup Playoffs with games one and two on Friday (4/11) and Saturday (4/12) from Pan Am Pavilion. Both games will begin at 7:05 pm.
