Indiana Ice News Release
It was happy hour for the Indiana Ice Saturday at Bankers Life Fieldhouse when they faced off with the Muskegon Lumberjacks. Most of the fun was supplied by two shots of Denis Smirnov.
The Russian forward scored a pair of goals as Indy served up a 4-1 victory over the Lumberjacks to avenge a 8-4 home loss to Muskegon at the end of December.
"I am trying to shoot more and be in front of the net," commented Smirnov after he scored Indiana's first and last goal. "I am looking for rebounds.
Brian Pinho and Patrick Newell sandwiched goals between Smirnov's lamplighters and Ice goaltender Jason Pawloski was solid in net to notch his second win of the weekend. Pawloski shut down Team USA in a 6-1 victory Friday night.
"I was getting a little bored because we kept everything in our offensive zone most of the night," stated the Indiana netminder after facing only 15 shots all night. "When we lost to them it was a confidence shaker, but this effort made it easy on me."
Muskegon scored first before Indy scored four unanswered goals. Smirnov potted his first of the evening 26 seconds into the second period. Austin Kosack and Scott Conway assisted.
Brian Pinho followed his two-goal effort on Friday with the game-winner with 1:22 remaining in the middle stanza. Mitch Hults provided the helper.
The hosts put it away in the third period with a pair of goals and held the visitors to just two shots on goal.
Patrick Newell collaborated with Vince Pedrie and Smirnov to give Indiana a 3-1 lead.
Smirnov finished the scoring at 14:22 while teaming with Dwyer Tschantz and Kosack.
The Ice hit the road where they have won six in a row before returning to Indianapolis for a January 30th meeting with Team USA.
